What to avoid when buying a big-screen TV
Considering TVs feature heavily in the upcoming Walmart Black Friday sale, I’ve got James Davidson, our TV Hardware Staff Writer, to give us some insights and advice on what to look out for when buying a big-screen display. Keep this in mind when shopping the larger TVs from Hisense, Sony, Onn and more that feature in today’s event.

We’ve all dreamed of having a big-screen TV at some point in our lives. We’ve all wanted to feel like we’re in the cinema in the comfort of our own homes and now with TVs becoming more affordable, big-screen TVs (thinking 75-inch plus) are easy to get hold of at budget-friendly prices and are always one of the most popular Black Friday deals.
But wait! As tempting as these big screens can be, there are some giant screens out there you should definitely avoid. The main offender is edge-lit TVs. Using LEDs around the edge of the screen to light the picture, edge-lit TVs often struggle to accurately process large, black and shadowed areas on screen and darker areas often end up with a cloudy grey effect. On big screens, this looks even worse as the LEDs around the edge have to work harder to try and light the wider surface area.
So, as tempting as a big screen may be, avoid edge-lit. We recently tested two cheap 4K sets, one of which was edge-lit, and found out the importance of what type of panel you can have!
Probably the best earbuds deals we’ll see this Black Friday
We already called these earbuds ‘great value for money’ in our Sony WF-C500 review – and that was at the full asking price. Now that they will be just $29 in the Walmart Black Friday sale we think they’re an absolute steal – and then some. Especially if you aren’t interested in Apple AirPods.
Yes, 20 hours of battery can be bettered – but 10 hours from the buds alone certainly can’t at this new low price point. They’re also light and comfortable, providing an exciting, musical sound. Oh, and this is easily the cheapest price ever – sounds perfect.

Cheap iPad? Sign me up
You can get the 64GB version of the 2021 iPad 10.2-inch for $249 right now at Walmart – that’s a solid saving of $80 and a return to the lowest price we’ve ever seen for this iPad.
The slight wrinkle here is that it’s an iPad from 2021, just before Apple refreshed the design of its cheapest tablets with the latest and larger 10.9 model. But don’t let that put you off, as the standard iPad is still a great entry-level tablet for all your everyday use – be that browsing, streaming or a bit of light gaming – thanks to the rich and well-supported iPadOS ecosystem.

This Apple Watch could go fast
The Apple Watch 9 was just released in October, and Walmart’s Black Friday sale will drop the smartwatch down to an all-time low of $379.
The Apple Watch 9 is more powerful than ever thanks to the S9 SiP chip, which delivers a brighter display and 18 hours of battery life. You also get advanced health and safety features, GPS technology, and a new double-tap feature that allows you to use your Apple Watch without touching the display.
The first major price cut of one of the world’s most popular smartwatches? Yeah, this one could go fast

A TV deal at Walmart we would recommend
Unlike the Onn, which is an astonishingly cheap if generally lacklustre TV, this Hisense TV is one we can more enthusiastically recommend from the Walmart Black Friday sale.
It’s a solid pick if you’re looking to grab a big-screen budget TV for a relatively reasonable price. You get a 4K resolution compatible display, Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10, DTS Studio Sound, and the Roku experience built-in for easy streaming. It’s a decent big-screen TV for your everyday viewing on a budget price.

Carpets so clean your friends will be green with envy
If you’re looking for anything you can shop for already, this recommendation comes from fellow deals editor Mackenzie Frazier, who says that the Bissell Little Green carpet cleaner is hands down her favorite appliance.
As an owner of a dog and a white couch, she finds it works like magic on any stain, and it’s a fraction of the cost of professionally cleaning your carpets or upholstery. Walmart has the portable carpet cleaner down to $89 (was $123.34) – that’s the same offer we saw during the October Prime Day and the lowest price we’ve ever seen.

Walmart Plus 50% off
Heads up: you’ve only got a few more hours to get Walmart Plus for just $49. The retailer has slashed the price of a year-long membership to its subscription service by 50% and the timing couldn’t be better if you’re looking to spend during the sale today.
That’s because Walmart Plus members get early access to the Black Friday deals at 12pm ET – that’s three hours before everyone else. And when there’s a risk that the most popular products could sell out before the sale opens to all, you don’t want to miss out on a terrific early bargain.
That’s certainly a strong possibility this year, too, especially with impressive deals such as the Apple AirPods for $69, a Gourmia 7 Qt Digital Air Fryer for $35 and a Hisense 75-inch 4K TV for $398. Those are just a few of the highlights from the dozens of Walmart Black Friday deals launching today.
A 50-inch 4K TV for under $150 – too good to be true?
One eye-popping offer in the slate of upcoming Black Friday deals at Walmart is this Onn. 50-inch 4K Roku TV for only $148. Now, Onn. is clearly not a major household name like Samsung, LG or Sony, but does that really matter? Especially when the price of the TV is so low.
Let’s be clear, this is about as cheap and cheerful as it gets when it comes to TVs. Picture quality, performance and longevity are definitely going to suffer, so you may end up being more frustrated if you intend to use this as your main TV. As a second screen for another room or more infrequent use, though, it’s hard to argue with the ridiculously low price for a TV of this size.

Is this the best deal at Walmart today?
Walmart has generously told us all of the Black Friday deals that are going live today so I’ve taken a look at what’s on offer and picked out some highlights. Of everything, I think this offer on the Apple AirPods is the best one you can buy today.
Walmart will have the second-generation version of the popular earbuds for $69. Sure, these are the older model, but it’s still a record-low price for the 2019 AirPods and almost $100 less than the latest release.
Our Apple AirPods (2019) review did find audio performance somewhat underwhelming and wished the battery lasted longer, but with the convenience of wireless charging and this outstanding low price, they’re still a solid buy if you desire affordability and easy connectivity with all Apple devices over everything else.

Walmart Black Friday sale starts today
Welcome to our countdown to the start of the first Walmart Black Friday sale here at TechRadar.
Until the early access period begins for Walmart Plus members at 12pm ET, I’m here to share all the important news and give our expert verdict on the deals that will be available in today’s sale so you can come away with the best bargains.
If you’re not a Walmart Plus member, the sale is open to all from 3pm ET. However, be aware that there’s a solid chance that some of the most popular deals will sell out before we reach this point.
My advice? If there’s something you really want from the list above (especially the AirPods, air fryer or Onn. TV) then it might be worth grabbing a Walmart Plus membership while it’s 50% off. This offer is only available until 2:59pm ET today, though.
Either way, we’ll monitor stock levels right here so you don’t miss out on any deals you want to get from the Walmart Black Friday sale.
