The UK should completely legalize marijuana because the industry could be worth some $8.5 billion and bring in tax revenue of around $1.3 billion annually, a new report suggests.

The idea of following in the footsteps of several U.S. states and legalizing the industry is suggested in a new publication, “The Tide Effect,” from free-market think tank The Adam Smith Institute and Volteface, a drug policy innovation hub.

The new approach to pot policy in the UK — one that’s as lucrative as it is radical — has gained the support of a cross-party collection of British politicians, including former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.  Read more…
