Embracer Group restructuring continues as Fishlabs studio is expected to cut around 50 jobs

Around 50 job cuts are expected to be made at German studio Fishlabs, as Embracer Group’s restructuring program continues.
Fishlabs – which is owned by Deep Silver, a division of Embracer-owned company Plaion – is arguably best known for its work on the Galaxy on Fire series, but it also produced the Nintendo Switch ports of both Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row 4: Re-Elected. In a press release shared yesterday (via WebWire), the vice president of worldwide studios and talent at Plaion, Lars Janssen, said that “We are facing a tough moment together.”
He continued: “Each individual at our Fishlabs studio has been more than just a team member; they’ve been a vital part of our creative journey, bringing not only their skills but also their passion and dedication to every project. We’re truly thankful for the energy and heart they’ve invested in our collective endeavors. This painful decision is a reflection of the broader challenges in the gaming industry, not the incredible talents or efforts of our team.”
The job cuts at Fishlabs are the latest in a long line of layoffs made at Embracer Group this year due to its restructuring program. As of the end of September, the company had cut around five percent of its workforce, which amounted to 904 job losses. However, a financial report from earlier this month stated that restructuring “is expected to continue through to the end of the current fiscal year.”
Speaking about the layoffs, Embracer Group’s interim chief strategy officer, Phil Rogers, recently said that although the human impact is “agonizing,” restructuring is “how we win” and is “a necessary thing for us to hit our new and needed goals.”
