A little team from Illinois crushed the first big 'Gears of War 4' tournament



The first major Gears of War 4 tournament — held in Columbus, Ohio, less than two months after the game came out — carried a heavy purse, with 108 teams competing for a total of $300,000.

Ilinois-based Team OpTic Gaming took home $120,000 of the pool for first place prize at MLG Columbus Gears Open.

The event kicked off the first of six in a series of Gears of War 4 tournaments called Gears Pro Circuit. A total of $1,000,000 will be up for grabs over a span of six months, ending summer of 2017.

In the Gears Open grand finals, Team OpTic Gaming and EnVyUS went head-to-head in a first-to-seven match. In the beginning it was looking like a sweep for Optic, who took four games in the finals without fail.  Read more…
