New Disney Plus movies: every new film to stream in June 2024

New Disney Plus movies: June 14, 2024 update
Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
This week, 2015’s Tomorrowland movie, which stars George Clooney, has finally made its way onto Disney Plus in the US (it was already available to stream in the UK and Australia). We’ve also removed Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Beatles: Let It Be, and 2003’s Daredevil from this guide as we don’t consider them to be new releases anymore.
Welcome to TechRadar’s new Disney Plus movies guide. Below, you’ll find a round-up of the biggest new movies – licensed films and Disney Plus Originals – to launch on the service since late May.
This week, 2015 sci-fi film Tomorrowland, which stars George Clooney, has landed on Disney Plus in the US. Sorry, UK and Australian viewers, there’s nothing new for you – but don’t fret. There are plenty of fantastic recommendations in our best Disney Plus movies article instead, including plenty of Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars offerings among others. US readers should be aware that the odd film on this list is only available on Hulu, so you’ll need to subscribe to another of the world’s best streaming services to watch them.
New Disney Plus movies: June
Tomorrowland
Release date: June 10
Runtime: 131 minutes
Age rating: PG-13 (US) / 12-plus (UK)
Director: Brad Bird
Cast: George Clooney, Shiloh Nelson, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, and Keegan-Michael Key among others
Rotten Tomatoes (RT) score: 50% (critics); 50% (audiences)
With an all-star cast led by the charismatic Clooney and Brad Bird, director of The Incredibles (one of the best Pixar movies), involved in its development, Tomorrowland should’ve been a bigger hit than it was. As its RT scores suggest, though, you couldn’t find a more bang average film.
Originally titled 1952 before being renamed after the Disney theme park ride of the same name, Tomorrowland sees Clooney and Nelson star as Frank and Casey, a disillusioned inventor and an enthusiastic teen with a penchant for science, team up to explore an alternate dimension. In this realm, the duo realize their actions affect their own world – which, if you ask us, doesn’t sound like something you’d want to mess with. A visually stunning film that’s weighed down by shoddy storytelling and thematic exploration that’s been done better elsewhere.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ron Howard, Idea Man explores the iconic career of the late Jim Henson, the mastermind behind legendary puppet-based shows including The Muppets and Sesame Street, setting up the Jim Henson Company, and directing beloved classic movies, such as Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal.
Using archival footage, personal diary entries from the man himself, and recently filmed interviews with some of his closest collaborators, Idea Man chronicles and celebrates the life and legacy of one of Hollywood’s most creative individuals. A wonderfully constructed, warm, and eye-opening docufilm, and one of May’s new Disney Plus movies that’ll appeal to every type of documentary fan and/or Henson diehards.

The First Omen
Release date: May 30 (available on Hulu in the US)
Runtime: 120 minutes
Age rating: 18 (US) / 16-plus (UK)
Director: Arkasha Stevenson
Cast: Nell Tiger Free, Bill Nighy, Ralph Ineson, Sonia Braga, and Tawfeek Barhom
RT score: 81% (critics); 69% (audiences)
A precursor to 1976’s The Omen, this terrifying horror flick, which only landed in theaters on April 5, has made its way onto Disney’s primary streamer with the aim of spooking even more audience members silly. Free plays Margaret, a novice priestess from the US whose sent to Rome to work at a church orphanage before she can take the veil, aka passing her probationary period. There, she becomes embroiled in a mass conspiracy that has ties to the apparent birth of the Anti-Christ.
The First Omen was largely well received by fans and critics earlier this year, with many praising Free’s leading performance and the film’s ability to modernize the 50-year-old franchise for a new generation of viewers. A highly uncomfortable and frightening flick that honors what’s come before while leading the movie series into a bright, new future.

The Beach Boys
Release date: May 24
Runtime: 114 minutes
Age rating: TV-14 (US) / 16-plus (UK)
Directors: Frank Marshall and Thom Zimmy
Cast: Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, and Bruce Johnston
RT score: 87% (critics); 80% (audiences)
Billed as a celebration of the legendary US rock band, The Beach Boys brings swathes of Californian summer lovin’ and harmonies aplenty to Disney’s primary streaming platform. In never-before-seen archival footage, plus new interviews with its most notable members, the documentary film charts the group’s rise from humble family beginnings to superstardom, as well as stories about the creation of their biggest hits and problems they faced along the way.
Just like Let It Be (see below), The Beach Boys is a fascinating docufilm that long time fans and general music lovers will get *ahem* good vibrations from. God only knows what people say if you miss out on streaming it…
