India, the second most populous nation in the world, is full of quirks and eccentricities. Here are some of its uniquely odd achievements that made it to the Guinness World Records this year
1. Largest individual ‘laddoo’
It weighs 29,465 kg (64,959.21 lb) and was achieved by PVVS Mallikharjuna Rao in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. A popular Indian sweet, the laddoo was prepared with refined ghee (clarified butter), oil, cashew nuts, sugar, almonds, cardamom and water.
2. Most lit candles in the mouth
This man from Mumbai could fit 17 burning candles in his mouth. Dinesh Shivnath Upadhyaya is known to have a fetish for putting weird objects in his mouth. Last year, his candle record stood at 15, which he went on to better this year. Read more…
