When it comes to holiday shopping and Black Friday deals, it’s important to remember one thing: just because something is discounted doesn’t automatically make it worth buying.

Buying something at reduced cost feels like winning a contest or gaming the system — that’s by design. There’s a reason bargain shopping is so addicting: the anticipation of finding a killer deal actually pumps the brain full of dopamine.

Retailers take every measure possible to capitalize on that rush and turn the thrill of the hunt into the satisfaction of the purchase (ideally purchases, plural). In the attempt to catch deal-crazed consumers, though, they offer some bogus discounts.  Read more…
